Bio

Gilbert Tallard is a French born American who has been living in North America for the last 50 years being involved with design and construction in geotechnical related projects. He received his diploma of civil engineer from the Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne (EPFL) Switzerland in 1967.

Starting his career on these shores as a grouter in Mexico tunnels and various dams followed by deep foundations assignments in Canada and the US where he has resided since 1974.

In 1985 he left the corporate world of best-known industry aces like Solétanche, Icos and Moretrench to follow his main interest independently: geofluids, anything that incorporates water and is less than 500 psi (3.45 MPa). His company, name Liquid Earth Support, is a synonym for all about Mud.

His prime interest is in self-hardening slurries having, since the mid 80’s, promoted the use of slag cement to increase strength and lower permeability at a time when Superfund sites offered a market for innovations. Now in the twilight of his career, he conducts research on greener formulations given the CO2 footprint of Portland cement and the near term vanishing of slag cement,  consistent with the worldwide modernization of the steel making process.
